A Brief Moment
In Time
Bud
and Betty Schobert founded B&B Foods in 1952 in their garage on south 25th
Street in
Terre Haute, Indiana. The business
flourished causing them to move to a small warehouse on Poplar
Street. In 1964 growth required
them to relocate to Crawford Street just one block from our
present location. In 1968 the Stran
Steel company wanted the land our business was on so we
moved to our present location.
We still occupy the original building we moved into in 1968, which
was built in the early 1900's.
Having been a livery stable and it's most recent occupant before us was
the Fitzgerald Baking Company.
The building is slowly deteriorating and will soon be replaced. I,
"Scott Isles,"
was 14 years old when we moved and can remember moving out the old wooden tables
used to make bread on. At that
time we owned 2 trucks and were able to store everything including
the trucks inside the 5,000 square feet
building. Since then we have added 8 additional buildings.
Presently we have 80 employees, operate
20 vehicles, with a full service garage and a Cash and
Carry store, covering a 120 mile radius
of Terre Haute.
B&B Foods is a
member of Unipro.
In fact Bud Schobert was one of the original founders of the
Nifda organization in the late 1950's,
our member number is 004. We are a second-generation family
business with my brother Jim and myself
responsible for the day to day operations.
